Eco-Friendly Love Story: Doctor’s Zero-Waste Wedding Goes Viral
Indian weddings are famous for their extravagance, but one hidden cost is the massive amount of waste that they generate. A doctor recently said “I do” to sustainability with her unique Zero waste wedding, and the internet is applauding her creativity!
Zero Waste Wedding- Combating Waste with Crafty Solutions
The bride, inspired by her mother’s advice, implemented several eco-friendly practices to minimize her wedding’s environmental impact. In a viral video, she shares these clever solutions:
Sugarcane Sensational: The traditional wedding mandap, a ceremonial structure, was constructed entirely from sugarcane stalks! After the festivities, these stalks were repurposed as nutritious cow feed.
Ditch the Disposables: Forget wasteful plastic plates! Guests were served their delicious wedding feast on biodegradable banana leaves, a traditional and sustainable option in many cultures. Reusable steel cutlery replaced single-use plastic utensils, further reducing waste.
The bride says,
“I do not know if this is what experts would consider a zero waste wedding but we did not generate any plastic at the event and did everything we could to minimise our footprint It was only because of the cooperation of our families that my dream of a zero waste wedding was possible,” Dr Poorvi Bhat wrote.
“My mother was the genius behind it all, she planned and organised the whole event and it was very fulfilling for me that our union happened the way it did,” she added
