When North Meets South- A lockdown wedding!
Life is like a roller coaster ride, when things get difficult, that is when the real adventure begins. Here is a tale of two love birds, based in different parts of the country and their lockdown wedding.
When two contrasting mindsets with stark difference in looks thought to unite, you don’t require any other adventure. This is the story of the adventurous ‘Sandeep‘ and the ever curious ‘Jigyasa‘ getting hitched by overcoming all the odds during the lockdown.
A particular corporate firm love episode began with conversations over life’s philosophy in Jaipur. This like-minded nature gave them the much needed impetus to have never ending chats and time to understand each other. With late night whatsapps and a few long walks made them see something beyond the obvious.
However, the budding relation took its own sweet time while being a ride full of twists and turns before they realized how strong they are at the face of it. While there were no disagreements from the parents’ side, soon their Roka ceremony took place on 25th May 2019 and the wedding was scheduled for 13th Feb 2020. But fate had got something else in store for them, they had to be in a long distance relationship when Jigyasa moved to Delhi (her hometown) .
Only the Chandni Chowk shopping was their “Meeting Source”, when Sandeep himself drove from Jaipur to Delhi on Sundays, while also being the translator between the Punjabi-Telugu families.
Now, when all of them were engrossed in the South Indian shaadi with North Indian flavour, it was in itself exciting enough until a family mishap in the groom’s family brought everyone into shatters. The wedding was postponed for the time being. The support of the bride in these unusual times helped the groom immensely.
Eventually, the gradual recovery of groom’s family got them to bring the wedding back on the front seat. This time, the “the date” was decided for April 08, 2020.
Well, well, welll…i.e. when Corona played it’s part, and the saga of unpredictable twists, begun.
Now, nature played the central character and shut all of us down at our places, through Covid pandemic and continual stages of lockdown.
But, someone said that love has no boundaries and this couple proved it correct. Even this drama could not stop them and they finally found a way for themselves, concluding this occasion in their own style.
As Lockdown 4.0 was announced with some relaxations, Sandeep took permission from the authorities; and only the groom travelled from Jaipur to Delhi. His parents and siblings were also avoided to not risk through air travel.
Within 4 days, during the lockdown, all the preparations were made by the bride’s family to celebrate the occasion at the bride’s residence on 24th May 2020. The sweet and simple arrangements were complemented with the Zoom Call technology to make everyone a witness for the union of the couple. While the priest was conducting all the rituals as per North Indian traditions, the groom’s family instructed for South Indian rituals.
A sweet, fun-filled ceremony including the basic Hindu saat phere, mangalsutra & a few Telugu rituals such as Talambralu, jeelakarra-bellam and Arundhati Nakshatram were performed at the bride’s residence. Like it is said, ‘ if life throws lemon on you, make a lemonade out of it.’
And this is how a beautiful and intimate multicultural wedding took place during the lockdown.
